Literacy + Math

To keep our math learning journey ongoing, this newly created section links to a variety of math and literacy resources to use at home, in school, and online. Connecting literacy with math learning is the common theme among these resources, which include PowerPoint presentations from recent MathAmigos workshops and “Take 5” learning activities that utilize hands on materials and ideas that have been developed for and shared with, teachers in the E-Coaching Literacy and Math program.  Many of the books and activities featured have been field tested by teachers and families, and I am happy to report that their students and children are responding to them with great enthusiasm!

Math-themed books and stories coupled with hands-on materials serve as a natural catalyst to stimulate children’s communication and thinking skills as they learn and make sense about the world of math in their daily lives. As children listen and talk about the math in the books and stories, they look for hidden meanings, information between the lines, patterns, significant connections, and conclusions based on details, and are exposed to multiple learning modalities grounded in language.

Resources will be added to keep the lively Literacy + Math ideas flowing.
